In special circumstances an Emergency Passport can be issued where:
- you cannot complete all requirements (other than identity, citizenship and entitlement) for the issue of a full validity passport
- or you can complete all requirements but there is an exceptional need to travel urgently
-
The Emergency passport:
- can be issued within 2-business days
- contains only 4 visa pages
- has a limited validity of 7 months
- does not contain a chip and is therefore not accepted in every country (it is the responsibility of the holder to ensure the travel document is suitable for entry, transit and exit for any ongoing travel including visa requirements)
-
A full validity passport may be applied for simultaneously, utilising the same application as the Emergency Passport.
- Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] before you book the appointment.
-
Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your new passport after successful lodgement. There can be significant delays if the photos are not accepted or documents are missing. It is not possible to expedite applications lodged outside of Australia.
-
Before booking an appointment or sending in your application, please ensure that you:
- have all the relevant documents required for the application
- that your photos meet the requirements and that they are signed/endorsed where required
- and that you have filled in the form correctly
-
New passports can be collected or sent by post. If you choose to have your document posted, it will be sent as registered mail with DHL. It is the client's responsibility to assess and accept this risk as the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is unable to take responsibility for delays or items lost in the mail.
- Ordinary passport (34 pages):
- 10- year validity for persons aged 16+
- 5- year validity for children under 16 years
- 10- or 5-year validity for persons aged 75 years+ (please indicate your choice on the form
- Replacement Passport (34 pages): Only available to overseas applicants with full visa pages or minor damages but more than 2 years validity remaining on their current passport. A replacement passport will be issued with the same expiry date as the passport being replaced.
- Entry, exit and transit requirements:
Some countries won't let you enter unless your passport is valid for six months after you plan to leave that country. It can apply even if you're just transiting or stopping over.
Some foreign governments and airlines apply the rule inconsistently. If you’re not sure your passport will be valid for long enough for your journey, consider getting a new passport
