If you reside in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen, Niedersachsen, Sachsen, Thüringen or Bayern, the Australian mission responsible for you is the Australian Embassy in Berlin. If you live in one of the other states, please send your application to the Australian Consulate-General in Frankfurt.

Applications by post - PC7 - Adult renewals
1. Eligibility & Passport application form
For a renewal, you must be 18 years and over and you currently hold a passport that:
- was issued when you were aged 16 or older
- was issued on or after 1 January 2006
- had, when it was issued, at least two years’ validity
- matches your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
- has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled.
Fill out the passport application at the global website (APO) and print it off (it is not possible to submit an application online). You will need to create an account first. When you fill out your application form online, you will automatically be directed to the correct form and a list of required supporting documents will be available.
Please ensure that your email address is legible on the form and that it is an email address you use regularly.
2. Form & Photographs
Print: You may need to adjust your print settings so that the top/bottom of the page is not cut off.
Sign: Make sure you signed within the white box.
Date: Signatures are valid for six months only.
Photo: Please write you name on the back of one photo and ensure that the ink does not transfer to the second photo. Do not attach the photos to the form.
We recommend that you have your photos taken by a professional photographer considering the photograph guidelines, printed on glossy paper. Please be advised that photos accepted by other authorities are not automatically accepted for your passport application.
Photos taken in a photo booth or at DM will likely be rejected. Selfies cannot be accepted.
3. Payment & Office

You can keep your current passport while your new one is being processed.
Once your new passport has been issued, you can collect it or it will be sent to you by registered mail. A postage fee applies. Please indicate which option you prefer on the credit card authorisation form.
Applications by post - PC8 - Renewals for children under the age of 16 only
1. Eligibility and passport application form
Child passport renewal applications (PC8) can be mailed-in provided the applicant is:
- under the age of 16 (i.e. 15 or below);
- has previoulsy held an Australian passport
Fill out the passport application at the global website (APO) and print it off (it is not possible to submit an application online). You will need to create an account first. When you fill out your application form online, you will automatically be directed to the correct form and a list of required supporting documents will be available.
Please ensure that your email address is legible on the form and that it is an email address you use regularly.
2. Print, sign and date your form.
Print: You may need to adjust your print settings so that the top/bottom of the pages are not cut off.
Sign: Make sure all sections are signed and witnessed where required before you send the form to us.
Date: Signatures are valid for six months only.
Children 10 years or older must provide a signature unless there is a medical reason or disability that prevents them from signing.
Parental Consent is required for a child passport. Everyone who is giving consent must sign section 15 of the form in front of a witness. Parents are not able to witness each other’s signatures. The witness must be an unrelated third party.
3. Parents' proof of identity
Please submit copies of both parents’ ID showing their name, photo and signature, as well as a copy of proof of address, such as a residency permit, utility bill or Anmeldung. Photocopies should be in black/white or colour and of good quality.
Parent's name change: If the current names of either parent are different to how they appear on the child’s birth certificate, please include a certified copy of a document explaining the change of name, such as a marriage certificate. Certified copies for this purpose can be taken by the guarantor (step 4).
Depending on your circumstances, we may require other documents. We will contact you upon receipt of your application to advise if any further documents were required.
4. Photographs and Guarantor
We recommend that you have your photos taken by a professional photographer showing them the photograph guidelines.
Photos taken in a photo booth, at home or at DM will likely be rejected.
A guarantor must sign the application and endorse the back of one photo for all PC8 applications. The guarantor cannot be related to the applicant.

Certified copies: They should write on the photocopy; "this is a true copy of the original document presented to me", with their full name, occupation or Australian passport number and the date signed.
5. Payment & Office

PLEASE NOTE: Incomplete applications will cause delays. You should factor these timeframes into your travel plans. It is your responsibility to keep your Australian passport valid.
Your passport remains valid while the application is being processed and will be cancelled electronically 30 days after we have sent out your new passport.
