Partner and Family Migration Visas

The family stream of Australia's Migration Program enables close family members such as partners, fiancés and children to travel to Australia

 

Partner visas

You may be eligible for a partner category visa if you are a:

• Spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, or
• Fiancé of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, or
• De facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Australia on 9 December 2017, applicants in a same-sex relationship can apply for a Partner visa (subclass 309/100) as their partner’s spouse if they are validly married. Applicants in a same-sex relationship can also apply for a Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) if they intend to marry their prospective spouse in Australia.

Applications for Partner and Prospective Marriage visas must be lodged online via ImmiAccount.

 

Child visas

The family stream of Australia's Migration Program enables the reunion of immediate family members, including dependent children, adopted children, stepchildren, and orphan relatives.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa

A New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (Temporary) visa (subclass 461) allows a non-New Zealand family member of a New Zealand citizen to live and work in Australia for up to five years.
