Is the Desert Still the Desert in a Digital World?: online performance with Gretta Louw
Gretta Louw will set up a live video link up between Art Laboratory Berlin and the Warnayaka Arts centre in Lajamanu, Australia, located in the remote central Australian desert. Since March Louw has been taking part in a residency in Lajamanu teaching photography, video and new media to indigenous arts workers, as well as introducing them to online communication platforms. The culmination of this first program of new media training will be a real time link-up between Lajamanu and Berlin.

Sir George Reid Memorial Trophy Race at Hoppegarten
One hundred years ago, in May 1912, Sir George Reid, former Prime Minister of Australia and first High Commissioner for Australia to London, spoke in the Reichstag to an audience of state officials, politicians and commercial representatives about fostering closer economic ties between our two countries. To commemorate the centenary of the first official visit to Germany by an Australian government representative, the inaugural Sir George Reid Memorial Trophy horse race will be held at Hoppegarten racetrack.

Ausstellung: Australien - Poesie und Dramatik der Natur
Eine faszinierende Naturfotoausstellung des australischen Ausnahmefotografen Peter Jarver ist vom 2. September bis zum 3. Oktober im Berliner Automobil Forum Unter den Linden zu sehen. 59 der besten Naturfotos des mit vielen Preisen geehrten Australiers werden erstmals in Europa gezeigt. Wie keinem anderen Fotografen gelang es Peter Jarver, die Schönheit und Dramatik der Natur Australiens leidenschaftlich und kunstvoll mit seiner Kamera festzuhalten. Die großformatigen Aufnahmen, viele davon 1,50 Meter breit, „sprudeln voller Schönheit und Emotion. Ströme und Felsen, Bäume und Gewitterwolken werden nicht nur als spektakuläre Naturerscheinungen festgehalten, sondern als sorgfältig konzipierte und feinteilig komponierte Kunstwerke in Szene gesetzt“, urteilt sein renommierter Kollege Ken Duncan.
